Mid-Session: D-Street hovers in red; IT, Pharma stocks drag

Indian benchmarks continued to extend losses during the noon trading session while Pharma stocks were under pressure. All the sectoral indices are trading in the red with IT, pharma, PSU Bank down 1-2 percent. BSE midcap index down 1%, and BSE smallcap index sheds 1.5%.

Overseas, European stocks are seen opening on a mixed note Friday, after having touched three-week lows in the previous session on worries about the outlook for rates and growth.

Meanwhile, shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) gained 2.2 per cent at ₹3,725 on the BSE in Friday’s intra-day trade. Supreme Petrochem shares rose 4 per cent on BSE, logging an intra-day high at ₹888 per share.

At 12:37 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80756.77 down by -402.91 points or by -0.5 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24778.3 down by -112.55 points or by -0.45 %.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 81033.09 and intraday low of 80695.09 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24868.6 and intraday low of 24737.55.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3767.90,+3.39%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 678.30,+2.12%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 405.05,+1.21%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1380.05,+0.55%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 16350.00,+0.49%), among others.

Whereas, top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1578.15,-3.06%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 721.40,-2.59%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3442.00,-2.43%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 168.55,-2.18%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1415.70,-1.95%), among others.

Among the sectors, Realty index was at 6807.16 up by 10.04 points or by 0.15%. Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 690.70,+1.81%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1978.00,+0.52%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1604.90,+0.37%), Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1151.70,+0.20%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 722.10,+0.19%),.

On the other side, IT index was at 33563.06 down by -586.49 points or by -1.72%. Intellect Design Arena Ltd. (Rs. 999.00,-5.59%), Happiest Minds Technologies Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4250 , shares advanced were 1097 while 2969 shares declined and 184 were unchanged.
