Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty were trading lower on Thursday after US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 25 per cent tariff on all goods coming from India starting August 1, plus an unspecified penalty for buying Russian crude oil and military equipment.

At 10:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 81044.98 down by -436.88 points or by -0.54 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24693.1 down by -161.95 points or by -0.65 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 81062.38 and intraday low of 80695.15 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24728.95 and intraday low of 24635
