Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are likely to open on a flat to muted note today, tracking subdued global cues. The GIFT Nifty was hovering around 24,823.50 earlier this morning, indicating a quiet start.
Investors will keep a close watch on corporate earnings, with major companies like Tata Steel, InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo’s parent), Power Grid Corporation, and Hyundai Motor Company set to report their Q1 results today.
All eyes will also be on the primary market, as the IPO of National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) opens for subscription. The depository has already raised over Rs 1,201 crore from institutional investors in its anchor book on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81337.95 up by 446.93 points or by 0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24821.1 up by 140.2 points or by 0.57 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed on Wednesday after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that President Donald Trump’s Friday tariff deadline would not be extended. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was flat, Australia’s ASX 200 rose 0.64 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.64 per cent, and China’s Shanghai Composite edged up 0.43 per cent.
Overnight in the US, Wall Street ended lower as the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq slipped 0.38 per cent and 0.39 per cent, respectively, retreating from record highs. The Dow Jones fell 0.46 per cent amid weak corporate earnings and caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy statement.
