Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are set to open higher on April 28, tracking positive cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading near 24,227 earlier today. On the previous day, the market saw a sharp decline of over 0.5 percent as investor sentiment weakened over India’s response to the terror attack.

The May series opened strong, with Nifty hitting a high of 24,365.45 early on. However, rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan dragged it down to 23,847.85. Late buying, especially in IT stocks, helped the index recover some of the losses.

Indian stock markets are expected to be influenced by Q4 earnings, FII activity, US tariff talks, developments in the US-Russia conflict, and tensions with Pakistan. UltraTech Cement, Adani Green Energy, and TVS Motor will report results today, while Ather Energy’s IPO opens for subscription. Investors will also watch for the release of the Index of Industrial Production data.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 79212.53 down by -588.9 points or by -0.74 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24039.35 down by -207.35 points or by -0.86 %.

On the global front, Asian shares gained in a cautious start to the week as investors await progress in US trade negotiations with the region and signs of further stimulus from China.

Wall Street advanced on Friday, notching weekly gains as investors parsed a spate of earnings and looked for signs of easing tensions in the U.S.-China trade dispute.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.10 points, or 0.05%, to 40,113.50, the S&P 500 gained 40.44 points, or 0.74%, to 5,525.21, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 216.90 points, or 1.26%, to 17,382.94.
