To improve the safety, comfort, and overall well-being of truck drivers undertaking long-distance journeys, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has introduced a nationwide initiative titled ‘Apna Ghar’. As of July 1, 2025, a total of 368 ‘Apna Ghar’ facilities, offering 4,611 beds along with various amenities, have been established by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) at fuel retail outlets located along national highways.
Each ‘Apna Ghar’ facility is designed to provide essential services for truckers, including dormitory accommodation (ranging from 10 to 30 beds), access to restaurants or dhabas, designated self-cooking areas, clean toilets, dedicated bathing spaces (houdas), and purified drinking water.
The initiative has received positive feedback from the trucking community, reflected in the increasing number of bookings, app downloads, registrations on the dedicated ‘Apna Ghar’ mobile application, and encouraging responses from users on the ground.
