The Income Tax Department has extended the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26 from July 31 to September 15, 2025.
This extension applies to individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and entities not required to have their accounts audited. They can now file returns for income earned during the financial year 2024-25 (April–March) by the new deadline.
According to a statement from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the extension was granted to allow time for system upgrades to accommodate changes in ITR forms and deploy the necessary filing utilities.
