Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday emphasized the need for a balanced approach between regulation and economic freedom, underscoring the significance of competitive markets.
Speaking at the 16th Annual Day of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), she noted that CCI’s ability to maintain regulatory vigilance while fostering a pro-growth environment is crucial for building a resilient, inclusive, and innovation-led economy.
The Finance Minister also stressed the importance of ensuring the right mix of oversight and liberty in the market. CCI plays a key role in promoting fair competition and curbing anti-competitive practices. Additionally, it is responsible for approving mergers and acquisitions that exceed a specified threshold.
