The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the Kharif season of 2025, from April 1 to September 30. The budgetary allocation for this period is approximately Rs 37,216.15 crore, around Rs 13,000 crore higher than the Rabi 2024-25 allocation.
The initiative ensures the availability of fertilizers to farmers at subsidized and affordable prices while rationalizing subsidies based on recent international price trends. Under the NBS scheme, implemented since April 2010, the government will provide subsidies to fertilizer manufacturers and importers, ensuring farmers have access to 28 grades of P&K fertilizers, including NPKS grades, at reasonable rates.
