The government has announced a 10% import duty on desi chana (Bengal gram) effective from April 1.
Last year, in May, the government had permitted duty-free imports of chana to boost domestic availability and control prices. The import duty exemption was in place until March 31, 2025.
According to a finance ministry notification dated March 27, imports of Bengal gram will now be subject to a 10% duty starting April 1.
